PRESIDENTIAL PALACE Abu Dhabi, UAE

The new Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi is the most prestigious building currently under construction in the UAE; a building not only reflecting its proponent functions but also representing Abu Dhabi’s leadership within the UAE and the world. RW Armstrong is the project manager for this prestigious project and manages the lead consultant, coordinates between designers and the contractors, determines the optimum construction strategy and schedule, selects the procurement strategy for the construction, issues and assesses tenders, and ensures that all design and construction works are on schedule.

The palace will be utilized to house the offices of H.H. the President, H.H. the Vice President, H.H. the Crown Prince, and top state ministers and officials. As such, it shall serve an important role as the primary governmental facility for receiving and hosting visiting dignitaries. As the primary governmental facility for receiving visiting dignitaries, the whole development will be prestigious and stately, with both aesthetic considerations and security demands as high priorities.

The design allows for traditional and modern design to exist in harmony and to ultimately be a source of pride for all people of the United Arab Emirates. The site of the new Presidential Palace, located on Ras Al Akhdar peninsula adjacent to the Emirates Palace hotel, will encompass approximately 150 hectares including the palace complex and the required ancillary buildings.

The palace complex will include the main building (comprising entrance hall, majilis, dining and meeting rooms, press and media rooms) and two attached blocks; one for the Supreme Council and another to accommodate 12 Ministers. The main building will incorporate 134,275 sq.m.

The palace complex will also include three palatial wings:
- H.H. the President wing (30,797 sq.m.) includes H.H. office, majilis, meeting rooms and other offices with facilities.
- H.H. the Vice President wing (23,710 sq.m.) includes H.H. office, majilis, cabinet hall, meeting rooms and other facilities.
- H.H. the Crown Prince wing (22,854 sq.m.) includes H.H. office, majilis, meeting rooms, offices and other facilities.

The ancillary buildings will include the following:
- Military accommodation (1,210 sq.m.) and staff accommodation (2,017 sq.m.), both contain bedroom facilities and services.
- Services for the complex such as general stores, workshop, security gates, water tanks, chiller yard, guard towers, service tunnel and various gatehouses and watch towers.
- Two underground parking structures (27,310 sq.m. each), comprised of one surface level and two basement levels each with a total capacity of 947 parking spaces.

The complex will be surrounded by a functional and regionally symbolic wall accessed through the five stories high ceremonial gate incorporating 6,996 sq.m. RW Armstrong is also responsible for executing a project management level design review of all aspects of the project; architectural, structural, civil, MEP, marine to ensure that the requirements of the client are incorporated.
