ABU DHABI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – CAT IIIB UPGRADE OF EXISTING RUNWAY 13-31 Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

RW Armstrong provided design and construction engineering services to Tamas Projects for the design-build CAT IIIB Upgrade project at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. This project provided a CAT IIIB low visibility taxiway route for existing runway 31 and a stand management lighting system for each plane parking position to
provide advance warning for GSE personnel regarding the arrival/departure of aircraft at individual stands.
As a sub-consultant to Tamas Projects, RW Armstrong’s responsibilities included:

  • Design and field verification of CAT IIIB compliant taxiway centerline fixtures along the LVP route.
  • Design and field verification of monitoring devices to allow for monitoring and control of the individual fixtures along the LVP route.
  • Design and field verification of the existing AGL circuits in order to reconfigure the existing primary cable to create four (4) dedicated LVP circuits without overloaded the existing CCRs.
  • Design and field verification of a stand management lighting system located at each aircraft parking gate.
  • Design and coordination of the location of new aircraft sensors at specific controlled stop bars.
  • Determination of the location of new AGL lighting pits to accommodate the new monitoring devices.
