WESTERN DEVELOPMENT ZONE Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

TDIC is creating a unique destination experience with the development of a cluster of eight islands in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, known as “Desert  Islands”. The heart of the  development is Sir Bani Yas Island (87 km² in size and located 250 km of Abu Dhabi city) which is being developed as an environmentally sensitive, eco-tourist destination and residential development.
Currently the island consists of a wildlife park, agricultural lands, royal palace, accommodations for island staff and a 5 star hotel with staff accommodations. RW Armstrong led the design process for the Western Development Zone of Sir Bani Yas Island and worked with the client to establish design parameters including type of construction, building program, construction budget, sustainability goals and project schedule. The development component focuses on housing of the majority of the island’s necessary support, infrastructure services and facilities located in the Western Development Zone.
RW Armstrong was appointed by TDIC to provide architecture including architect of record services, structure engineering, civil and infrastructure engineering, sustainability, signage and way finding, MEP engineering and specialty lighting, kitchen and laundry specialty, landscaping and construction supervision consultancy services for this project.
